WTA Board Changes 2013
We are delighted to announce that the WTA Board is now back to a full contingent with the appointment of Gareth Revell to Technical Director.
Gareth has been an active member of the WTA, being the Mixed Open Head Coach for the last 5 years. He has recently been instrumental in launching the National Championships and organising the WTS for 2013 among other initiatives. He has championed elite player and referee development and brings a host of professional skills to the role.
Upon his appointment, Gareth said, “We are at an important juncture in terms of elite Touch in Wales. We suffered disappointment at the last European Championships but have responded by kicking off a number of initiatives such as the implementation of a new organisational structure, new appointments to various roles, holding our first regional tournament, plus a number of other developments that are in the pipeline.
With next year’s European Championships to be held in Swansea, we have a rare opportunity to represent our country on home soil, and it is imperative that we put in strong performances across each category. I will be working with Elite Performance Director, Simon Williams, to ensure that we have an ambitious high performance strategy, which will include a new season structure with development pathways for coaches, players and referees, that allow us to be better prepared for international competition. In addition, we will be looking at the long-term development of the sport in Wales, with a view to establishing youth representative teams and improving talent identification.”
Gwion Kennard takes up a new role of Commercial Director (incorporating Finance) having been Technical Director for the last 6 years.
