Yesterday saw another amazing festival of Touch take place in the blistering sunshine, this time in Carmarthen, home of the Llangain Hangmen. With a total of 13 teams signed up across two divisions, there was a wealth of talent on display once again!
In the women's division, there were some strong performances across the board, but special mention to the Young Guns who played some fantastic Touch throughout the day. It's safe to say that this youthful side are a team to watch for the future.
It would be Cardiff Coyotes and Varsity Vandals that would progress into one semi final, with the other seeing Kiwi Dragons face up against Gower Dragons.
The Kiwi Dragons won their semi 8-1 and Cardiff Coyotes took the Varsity Vandals 4-1.
The women's final was all end-to-end action in the first half with a 2-1 lead to the Coyotes, but a strong second half performance by the Kiwis saw the game finish 5-3 in their favour as they took the TF2 Cup home 🏆
In the men's division, pool 1 saw some close fought games between Skippers and Llangain Hangmen 2nds, but it would be the Kiwi Dragons that would top the group, progressing into the Cup along with the Cardiff Coyotes.
In pool 2, Gower Dragons and Llangain Hangmen 1sts were the teams to watch. Having both won their other pool games and drawn 4-4 against each other. With both teams tied, it came down to a try difference and after much calculation and head scratching, the Dragons edged it by one score. Lougher Centurions and the Lazer Bears were tightly matched and progressed into the Plate competition.
With the Kiwis defeating Llangain Hangmen 1sts by 8-6 and the Gower Dragons defeating Coyotes 11-1, it would be a repeat of the Mixed final from TF1. Once again, this Cup final did not disappoint. With the final score ending tied, it was another drop-off that would please the crowd. Both teams scored to make it 1-1 within the two minutes of normal play. With teams dropping to just 3 players each, it would be only moments later that Gower would score to take the title 🏆
In the Plate competition, Skippers and Lougher Centurions would compete in a tightly fought match that would eventually see the Skippers come up trumps 7-6 to take the silverware home 🎖️
Huge thanks to Rhian Williams and Kevin Hobbs from our Events Team once again, helped greatly by host David Jenkins with the venue and facilities, and to all the referees that made the games so enjoyable to play.
Special mention to our sponsors Horny Goat Drinks for fuelling the players throughout the day. If you haven't already tried the amazing energy drink, head over to www.goatdrinks.co.uk for more info!
